What is breathwork ?

Breathwork is simply the act of consciously affecting our breath.

Conscious Connected Breathwork

Conscious Connected Breathwork is an umbrella term used for methods of breathing where we consciously control our breath.

In conscious connected breathwork we use a connected or circular breathing pattern to breath without pause. This method brings with it a deep and powerful journey into ourselves.

By eliminating the pause between our breaths we are intentionally increasing oxygen levels and depleting carbon dioxide in the body. This allows us to enter an expanded state of consciousness.

Here we by entering a theta brainwave state, we journey deep into our own subconscious.

Breathwork encourages a dreamlike expedition deep within.

Sacred Breath Method

The Sacred Breath Method was created by founder Kaya Leigh.

After witnessing breathwork practices that did not support multi layered somatic unwinding , or long term healing, Kaya saw a need for a breathwork method that allowed deep journeys within a safe space reducing the risk of re-traumatisation.

Mouth induced breathwork can induce quick highs, however, such breathing will not bring people deep into their bodies.

The Sacred Breath Method (SBM)creates a deeper wholistic alternative to breathwork, as opposed to the more forceful mouth inhale method that has the potential to lead to less intentional unsafe spaces.

Each individual breather is greatly different, where people can come from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures and conditioning. By creating an intentionally safe space the SBM allows for a gentle entry into the subconscious, however with safety now setup within the body we can journey deeper than we could ever imagine. To uncover powerful insights about who we are, how we came to be and what we can let go of.

What Led me to Breathwork ?

I have always known I needed to be cracked open. Since childhood I have been fascinated with the subconscious. Obsessed with my vivid dreams and uncovering the interpretations of them .

I spent years of my youth trying to access my secrets through free flow writing, recording my dreams and drafting tortured soul poetry.

Then along came the glorious mirror of motherhood.

I was faced with her. The woman who did not quite understand why she was triggered and riddled by anxieties. Emotions she had been hiding. Yet now she needed to shed these dysfunctional ways of being, so that she could learn to grow alongside the tender souls she had birthed into the world. To allow her to be the safe, regulated, and strong guide all children deserve in a guardian.

I ventured down many a road, where I found myself facing continuous blocks, post natal depression, clinical depression, anxiety. As I was led towards the dark dark night of the soul. With the darkness within continuing to knock any chance it could get. Seeking new ways to wake me up. Not yet wise to the point of these lessons, my higher self was begging me to listen. So that I could forgive and embrace these dark corners with pure unconditional love and compassion.

I followed the stepping stones to begin to unlock, medication, therapy, energy healing, exercise, writing, photography.

Nothing quite got me as deep as I have gone while accessing the medicine of the breath.

The breath has allowed me to journey so deep into myself that I now finally walk a lighter path. A path that has shown me how to shed the deep deep shame that has held me back my whole life.

The discovery of the power of Breathwork has led me with a yearning to be in service to others. To offer others a safe , non judgemental space where they can journey deep into themselves and unearth all that holds them back, to discover and access their own true deep medicine.

This path has led me to a two year journey with the Sacred Breath Academy (SBA), where we are held to a high standard of being able to hold a trauma informed space for our breathers. Where after a deep journey you are not quickly sent off on your way wondering what just happened. In SBA we are taught how to be responsible leaders and guides. My SBA training brought me to the mountains of Crete where alongside our lessons we underwent 7 intensive days of our own breathwork journeys. Bringing our experience to a deeper level. As we cannot guide others to where we have not been ourselves. This was an incredible experience where I became a channel of healing for all the women in my family. With this experience I am here to be your loving and strong guide.

Sometimes we will not have the words, sometimes we may never have the words to express all that we are holding onto, all the dysfunction that we have been carrying around since we were children. Thats ok. Your body is wise, it knows what it needs to let go of to allow you to grow. Breathwork is the gateway to release these traumas from deep within your body. Allow it to flow.

The Foundations of the Sacred Breath Method

The Sacred Breath Method

  • Offers a holistic long term healing modality

  • It is body based and somatically intelligent, activating the restful parasympathetic system.

  • The use of only inhaling through the nose (and not the mouth) invites longer deeper journeys into the subconscious. With journeys that include time for a deep integration , a regenerative savasna and lovingly held sharing circles.

  • Trauma informed allowing for free form uninhibited expression.

  • Follows the feminine principles of flow and allowance over force.

  • Safe lovingly held spaces where all expression is welcome.

  • Nose inhale rather than mouth inhale, and therefore an activation of our parasympathetic system rather than our sympathetic systems. We live our waking days with too much activation of our sympathetic systems or fight or flight. Breathwork is your bodies chance and signal for rest and relaxation through the parasympathetic system.

Breathwork ‘works’ on 4 levels

Physical

  • More oxygen is delivered to our cells and tissues , in every system of the body.

  • The nervous system can become regulated, you unwind and relax

  • Breathwork promotes optimal digestion

  • Oxidative stress can be eliminated

  • Trauma is released.

  • Sleep is deepend

  • Breathwork can allow us to maximise our lung capacity.

  • Did you know that 90% of our energy come from the breath and 70% of the bodies detoxification is via the breath.

Emotional

  • A safe container to process the range of human emotions

  • This is a place of non judgement and safety.

  • All emotions are welcomed and encouraged

  • This allows you to blossom strong self forgiveness

  • A place where you can finally integrate all parts of your glorious human experience including your pain, hurt and trauma.

  • There is no longer a place for you to run to.

  • The deepest words for you to breath through are ‘The only way out is through’

  • You are encouraged to soften into those places that are yet to be met.

  • Encouraging catharsis, the visceral deep emotional release your soul has been craving.

  • Breathwork is the Art of descending to your own depths to reclaim and heal.

  • Freedom is on the other side of what we have been avoiding, whether it is conscious or not.

Mental

  • Expanded brainwaves only seen in deep meditation of hypnotherapy

  • We access the limbic brain to unlock our repressed memories, for their rightful healing and integration.

  • Neuroscience tells us that we are 95% directed by our subconscious. We are walking through life asleep. Where only 5% of our activity is conscious.

  • More shockingly is that 70-80% of our unconscious thoughts are negative and completely disempowering. The use of positive thinking and affirmations may never truly unlock you to the level your soul deserves.

  • Between the ages of 3-7 our brains are sponge like, in a dream like theta brainwave state. We absorb and internalise our environment.

  • For a child in a toxic unhealthy environment, this dysfunction becomes our foundational operating system filtering through into our adult lives. Affecting our relationships, holding us back from our true authenticity.

  • Breathwork is the gateway to shed these dysfunctional levels of conditioning.
